in a 5 stage rodi unit , other than the di and the membrane , what are the first 3 stages ? what should be the sequence ?

tap water -> sediment filter -> carbon block -> ceramic filter

is this correct ?

I believe you will receive different answers on this, but I think many people use Sediment -> Carbon Block 5 micron -> Carbon Block 1 micron.

Those filters that come before the membrane, collectively called "prefilters" can vary.

Some vendors install sediment filter->carbon filter->carbon filter. This can be a good choice if you have chloramines in your water.

If you have high sediment loads, you might think about two sediment filters and one carbon block.

If you don't have any particular water quality issues, you don't need 3 prefilters - you can save some money and leave one of the three empty.

Good info. My system started out with 1 micron poly, & two carbon stages. Realizing I don't have to deal with chloramines, I removed the first carbon stage which is a refillable type but kept the 0.5 micron carbon block chlorine guzzler. Currently I have a 5 micron poly, 1 micron poly & 0.5 micron carbon block in that order before the RO stage. Looks like the 5 micron poly first stage is trapping most of the sediment & the 1 micron poly is showing no visible contamination whatsoever. I could probably remove the 1 micron poly & run one stage empty, perhaps gain a few psi of pressure that way, but I kind of like the little extra piece of mind the 1 micron poly adds.
