Just set up a xs160 diablo and had a few questions?

What water level does it run best

Ways to reduce micro bubbles from the gate valve

Any help would be great.

It can be run anywhere from 6-10 inches. Mine works well at 8". As far as the microbubbles are concerned, have you plumbed the output under the water level?

As long as you add cut a hole for air to escape it will be fine. My outlet comes out of the skimmer to a t junction. On the top part of the t is a cap with a hole cut in it. If you don't cut a hole you will have backpressure issues that will affect skimmer performance.

yea i did this mod as well but i dont use a breather hole. reason being is that i did a 2-3 month experiment on a drilled breather hole to a non breather. i measured the skim and didnt see much of a difference. another reason why i went with the non breather is because it makes it quieter. but most people on here like using the breather. so either or you will be fine with this spout mod.

Depending how high your water level in your sump is all you may need is a 90 degree street elbow that fits into the adapter they provide you. Open the gate valve all the way and let it run for 10-15 minutes to "prime" the pump, then slowly close the valve until you reach the level you want the skimmer to run at. I run my water level just below the neck. Works great on my setup. I experience no backpressure. Best part is the elbow cost about $2. Good luck.

Great. Thanks for all the info guys. Drew2007 can you remember what size the street elbow was?

I wanna say 1 1/4" but im not 100%. I brought the british/english adapter that came with the skimmer with me to ace hardware and found the right size elbow.

Two questions. I have a different model but believe the basics are the same. Can u not just raise the water level to where the return output is to achieve the same effect? Also mine has a wiggly line that says water level min and another that says max. Is this for the tank water level or the level of the water inside the skimmer.

All depends on your setup. The skimmer has a pretty good range for setting. Just gonna have to play around with it for a while. Dont forget to give it about 2 weeks to "break in".

Raising it may or may not work as these skimmers have an operating depth. The min and max is for the water level inside the skimmer.

Thanks for the info. Mine seems to be running fine since i have done it but I'll keep an eye on it. I guess if i lower the level back down ill have to add that elbow otherwise it sounds like a waterfall. Thanks for the help.

No prob. I couldnt tolerate that waterfall sound so something had to be done.
