Sadly my 3/4 sub-male Lyretail Anthias just passed away last night. I am trying to figure out what happened, for the obvious reasons.
I noticed about 2 weeks ago that his colour seemed sort off faded....but not like lack of nutrition. It was almost like it looked creamy vice the usual vibrant orange and red. He was eating fine. I did notice he seemed to act little different at times, but he was always a strange one in how he acted with the other Anthias. He would do weird stuff all the time, so it is hard to pin point any change in behavior. Was he getting old? 3-4 years old.
He did have a massive pop-eye from what I assumed was hitting an urchin as he darted all over the tank bossing fish about. He recovered and seemed 90% fine after that. To me it looked his vision was fine, at least fine for eating and still doing what he does. That was just under a year ago.
Yesterday I sort of noticed he seemed to have some poop attached to him. Which I have seen happen from time to time to my fish, but very rare. It was the first time I noticed it from him. Then 5 hours later, boom dead. Maybe this aspect will help connect any dots.
My other fish all look great, as does my other Anthias.
Any ideas, thoughts?
Thanks,
Ser
