i just got a diamond goby yesterday. i have it in a ten gallon quarantine tank. everytime i walk in the room he freaks out a starts running into the glass.should i forget the quarintine and just put him in the main tank? he seemed fine at the store. my main tank consists of 5 hermits and a coral-banded shrimp. i dont want him to stress himself out in the ten gallon tank. your thoughts are very much appreciated.
thanks,
Daniel

give it time. do you have any LR for him to hide in? maybe put a dark towel in front of the QT so he can see all the movement. once he settles down he will come up to the glass to look at you.

wetwebmedia actually suggests skipping quarantine on sand-sifting gobies because it stresses them out so much that it can do more harm than good. I'd get him into the main tank as long as he looks good and has an appetite. Give him lots of food, IME these guys have an insanely fast metabolism and drop weight quickly if they miss meals.

Try leaving the lights off and putting a few pcs of PVC pipe in for him to hide in. You can light the tank for feeding, he will still freak out at first possibly but will soon learn that light=food and settle down. Also be very careful as you can probably guess they are jumpers, so keep the lid on the tank or he may end up on the floor, I had one do that found him a week later under the couch. Other than that I have found them to be very hardy fish, and if worse comes to worse, you can aclimate him and place him into your display. Hope that helps.
