Diamond Goby Question.

I just bought a diamond goby knowing nothing about it witch was a stupid mistake but I had to. It was 20$ and is like 6 inches long so I got it. I have sand in my tank but it ends in the middle of the tank. And it isn't very deep. And thoughts. Will the goby live?

How big is your tank?
Most likely you have just murdered the fish unless you can catch it and return it. That is a very large diamond goby, and my guess is your tank is not that big, and with a little sand, their wont be enough food in the sand for him to eat.
Next time research the fish first

I wish you good luck, but if it has to rely on your sand base I don't think it will last very long. If it does eat prepared food, then you may get lucky

The store I bought it from said they feed it frozen because they didn't have sand In there tanks. Plus I have a ton of algae growing on the sand. Anything else I should know about them.

They don't live long as compared to other SW fish, and they pair up very easy. Next time buy small so they can be with you longer.

It's not that diamond gobies are naturally short-lived. They have very specialized eating habits and usually starve to death in captivity, because most aquarists can't provide for their needs. But people think that they "need" a sand-sifter to keep their substrate clean (usually because they've been told that they do), so the aquarium industry keeps selling them. It's a marketing scam, really, and a shame, because countless numbers of fish end up suffering.

I have plenty of sand in my tank and my diamond back constantly sifts it.. However, I also feed homemade frozen fish food and he gobbles that up as well. Hopefully yours will eat prepared food too.

Diamond Goby's sift sand between feedings & will eat what you put in the tank at feeding time. Mines eats frozen, flakes, pellets & wafers from day 1. These fish are not hard to keep or please, some sand and a structure to dig there cave is all they ask.
O, they will jump so be prepared

We have a diamond goby in our 50 gallon tank. We have a 2-3 inch sand bed and our little guy is very happy. He eats all the pods that show up on our glass and he eats mysis shrimp. I would say, if you don't have a lot of natural critters in your sand, feed him a mix of mysis and brine shrimp.

Thank you a lot guys for this information. If it does dye witch I hope it won't I will buy a small watchman goby after I know my sandbed has many things for it to eat I am going to post pictures.

This is my sandbed. It's around 2 and a half inches deep. Does it look like enough. That's the tank the goby is in. It's a 92 gallon.

This is a pic if my Diamond goby. How long do you guys think it will live being fed mysis shrimp and it sifting through the sand

Honestly, living just off the sand in a 92 gallon, I think you will be lucky if he last 6 months- 1year, that is if he is actually 6 inches. If he's smaller it could prolong his life. I do hope he lives a lot longer but that would be my guess

Well I might take home back if he doesn't make a homeland stop stirring up my sand and making it cloudy. I will post if he eats the frozen this week.
