Both are equally as effective at turning sand.
They are not suited for a DSB as they will decimate the pod population and render the sand useless for biological filtration; the sand will actually become a nutrient sink and over-load the system.
For tanks with only an inch of sand (1-2''s) they are great at keeping the clean appearance we strive to maintain.
It is important to get them eating prepared foods as well since most systems are not large enough to sustain the needed fauna within the sand bed.
My Diamond Watchman at first was a maniacal landscaper constantly churning the bed in my nano-reef. But now I suspect the bed is pretty devoid of bugs because he's become an active competitor at feeding time and LOVES him some mysis!
