Diamond Goby

I purchased a diamond goby yesterday and he seemed happy as a clam at first. It spent a few hours sifting the sand front and center. I ate dinner and walked over to the aquarium and have not been able to find him since. It is unlikely he jumped into the overflow or onto the floor because I have a glass top. Is it normal for these fish to hide?

If you have lots o rockwork they may hide for a few hours/days i have a pair that will go missing from time to time but they always come back

Mine often burrowed under rocks. I think they like to build hiding places. My wife called him the construction worker. He had about 3-4 burrows but frequented one.

He did get spooked when I added a coral beauty, though. I had had the goby for about 1.5 yrs and added the CB. Even thought the CB didn't harass him, he hid all the time. It might have been the CB's size (bigger than other inhabitants) and activity level (a lot of movement).

Give the goby time to adjust, construct a few hiding places and it will probably get into a routine.
