Diamond watchman gasping

Had no idea where to post this thread sorry... I've had a diamond watchman for about 2 weeks he is starting to gasp and occasionally sits in flow and swims I place. He will not eat.
PH is 7.8 is that low enough to be deadly?
Sal 1.25
Amon 0
Nitrate 0
Nitrite 5

A few days after arriving he would skim the surface. Tomato clown and rbta (besides a little bleached) are both fine.

Do you have a skimmer, or a powerhead pointing towards and breaking the surface of your tank? Do you have a cover and if so what is it made of? It could be low oxygen is what I'm thinking, but could be something else. Need to eliminate that. 7.8 PH is low but not horrible. Also what is the temp of your water?

Turn off the heater, turn off the light, turn the fan on the surface, pick up a cup of water from the tank and pour it back in steadily over and over for about 10 minutes, far from his corner as you can. And put a few ice cubes in a ziiplock and float them,

Hot water holds less oxygen, and he's suffocating as well as suffering from the heat.

I'm suspecting something a little more serious. He is still gasping. He moves very little and when he does its uncordnated and jerky

Do you have an air stone in the tank? It would help if the high temperature lowered the oxygen.

Good luck.

Moved him to sump lots of pods and anphipods. Turned lights out still hasn't moved. Guess there's one thing I'm good at killing fish...

I would of just left him but it's your fish. Fish do not do well with drastic changes. I assume your sump is for the DT so the water conditions, be it oxygen level, temp, etc will be the same as the DT. Putting a ton of food in there face won't alleviate issues caused by low oxygen levels or the temp getting too high. If you have your temp issues resolved, just leave him be. Catching him to move him is only gonna stress the fish out more.

I agree with just leaving him be. It is up to him now. If he was really skinny when you got him it could of been to late then. I had one for several years who stopped eating. Not sure why. Maybe old age. No idea how old he was when I purchased him. The female I had at the same time is still with me and fat.

A controller would keep your temperature from fluctuating again. To quick of changes causes stress also. I had a heater that almost boiled my tank once.

Good luck to the little guy.

He died last night. When I removed him he had a cut on his gills and it was red and angry. I had my step dad pick up some anti-infection/parasite stuff in town because I had school, but he didn't last.He took residence in a large conch shell that I added as a decoration, everything in the tank was sitting on eggcrate under the sand and I suspect were I was snapping the crate to create the size was left jagged. I refuse to have another fish die so I plan on replacing gear and optimizing my tank.
