Hey guys, quick question about a new-ish tank. Started this 10G in early February with tap water, but every single water change has been with RO/DI water. Several 50% water changes since then so I'm sure nearly all the tap water is gone.
Anyhow, I recently purchased a "spawning" pair of Wyoming Whites (we'll see if the LFS owner was truthful or not) and I want to be feeding them 4-5 times a day. I never really had a full on diatom bloom, but I did have a mini one about a month into the cycle. I put my Wyoming Whites into the tank 3 weeks ago and started feeding 4-5 times a day and kept my lights on 14 hours a day instead of 10. Diatoms have gone crazy since then. I started an Algae Turf Scrubber 3 weeks ago to help with nutrient removal since I knew I'd be feeding a lot. It hasn't quite grown into itself yet :/
I need help removing the diatoms because they're causing my pH to rise dramatically. I'm using distilled vinegar every day to keep the pH in a tolerable range for the fish. But will the beneficial bacteria and Algae Turf Scrubber eventually catch up and out compete the diatoms?
The diatom bloom is 3X as bad as this week-old picture.
