diatoms or cyano

I have a 20 gallon tank with a hob cpr skimmer and have been battling this since a week before the last frag swap. Most of my zoas have either been closed for a while or shrinking in size. I have no clue what caused this. My tank has been set up for about a year now. I'm not sure if I had a bunch of snails die or maybe when I started using frozen brine/ nori to feed my 3 fish. I replaced my filters on my rodi and added a second membrane to conserve water. Hopefully that will fix it. I just finished my 3rd day in a row of a 5 gallon water change and dipping all of my zoas in furan 2. They are looking better. Wish my Promethean zoas which i got in the frag swap would open, they never had a chance to even open up. Just blowing off some steam.........

Good luck. I had a problem similar to your about 6 months ago. Turned out to be my RO filters were exhausted.

Increase your flow with an extra powerhead and keep up the water changes and you should be fine. Good luck!

I finally got a chance to do another water change, the 3 days of water changes and dipping my zoas in furan2 cleared a lot of the cyano. Zoas that have been closed since the frag swap opened up. I think a few more water changes and another round of dipping may clear it up.
