Did I kill my micromussa?

Rhinecanthus

In Memoriam
I just got a nice micro from a fellow reefer. It was going well for the day it was in my tank until I decided to take it out and mount it on a frag disk so it wouldnt get lost.

I dremeled the piece of rock chip it was on so that it would be more flush with the frag disc.

I had it out of the water maybe for a few minutes.

It hasnt opened up since I put it back in the tank (12 hours now).

It has retained its color but the polyps are retracted all the way down so that hard skeleton is the only thing palpable.

Are these pretty hardy?

I will try to get a pic tomorrow....hoping it can bounce back.

I am sure it will do open soon as Acans and Micros are so hardy coral they will not die with few min out of water.

By the time you try to take pics tormorrow I am sure it will open.

Good luck

I would not worry too much, because the polyps naturally retract when handled or disturbed. These corals can handle being out of the water for more than a couple of minutes. I would place it in the tank where it would obtain moderate light and current and don't mess with it. It should open up within 24hrs.

i agree with mschriskim. if you do something dramatic to a micro it will stay deflated for a day or so but will always bounce back. for doing this in the future, make sure that when you cut the bottum to make it flush, you dont cut into the "roots" of the coral. sometimes the actual flesh of the coral can go down into the skeleton alot deeper then youd think.

Update

Still not opening. 36 hours now. One small part of it looks like it has tissue regeneration but I can clearly see the skeleton at the outer edge of where the polyps should be.

I forgot to take a pic...I will get one tomorrow

Hey Rhine I forgot to answer your pm about that micro. I am with everyone in saying it will recover. I got one in the mail one time that wasn't anything but skeleton and specks of tissue in the center and it grew back in no time.

Let me know what happens.

Kyle

Just an update. The micro seems to have made a full recovery and the tissue is nice and full again. 3 full and 3 half polyps are clearly visible.
