Anyone else hear the story where a guy got nailed by a stingray again? I only believe half what I hear.... but the story goes bout a weed ago, one jumped into his boat, he tried to remove it, jabbed him in the heart but the guy lived cause he did not remove the barb and got to the hosptal right away....

Guess I belive the part where he got jabbed, but not where it jumped into his boat... wonder if it was on a fishing line at the time.. also wonder why after hearing about rays lately why one would decide to try to handle it ..????

Do or can rays actually leap, fly or otherwise jump into a boat???

I am soooo confused :(

I saw the same story on the News. They said he got wacked when he picked it up to throw it overboard. I thought it was odd that had jumped in boat also.

I saw it too. It did jump out of the water and when he went to throw it back it jabbed him. Had he done what steve erwin did he would have died. NOT pulling it out made the difference between life and death. It ended up going straight through his heart and the surgeons sewed up the hole. He is expected to make a full recovery... Starting to wonder about Rays though.... Why all of a sudden are things happening with them.... Things happen in three's right!!! WHO's NEXT

I think these occurrences happen more often. When it happens to someone famous that you hear more about it.
Some rays are known to jump out of water. I haven't read the article about this guy yet.

LOL, The ray must have had a close cousin that was put into someone's noncycled salty tank within 24 hours of set up...

True, but sad.

Rays

Rays

I went swimming with the rays in the Cayman Islands a few years ago...they were so gentle! I got to hold one and check it all out. They are an amazing creature. Their mouths are like little vacuums. I could see how if one of them was being chased...with that shaped body they could fly out of the water and into a boat. I think the man just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

WOW...not the kind of rays that i was in the water with. I'm to much of a sissy to do anything like that. lol Hmmmmm sissy...maybe we better rethink this diving thing?

Animals are like people- maybe they only imprint unnatural predators from things that have hurt them in their memories... Maybe some rays haven't encoutered ugly humans, and some have?

yah, sting rays are getting really bad reps. i personally think swimming with sharks in a cage is way more dangerous. but hey... accidents do happen. we are in their territory.
