Dieing snail??

I have what the lfs called a tiger snail. I believe it is a trochus snail. He was very active for the last two weeks that I've had him. Yesterday he was upside down on the sandbed. I righted him but he never moved. Today he was basically in same spot and very tight up into his shell. I put him on a rock and later he fell off I think. He is again not moving and up in his shell. Do u think he is Dieing? Water parameters are all fine and nothing else in the tank seems to be picking on him???

What is in the tank, the chances are he probably is dying not necessarily because of you could have been shipping or lfs fault. Curing snails is very hard so right now it is important that you address what is wrong with the tank so this will not happen to future snails. Some things that you should be wary of are copper based medication, fish( you may not see them picking on him but a stock list would help see if they have it in them), inverts some to look out for are pistol and coral banded shrimp plus mantises

Every snail I added in my tank.. motionless for a day or two and then eventually started moving.

its now day three with no movement at all. i think its safe to say he is dead :sad2: i may have damaged his foot when i removed him from the filter although it didnt seem like it at the time and now i feel terrible. the snail was introduced at same time as 8 blue legged hermits(with larger extra shells for them to move into) a peppermint shrimp and a brittle star. they were all fine and active for a few weeks. 6 days ago i added a chocolate clownfish(think its just a juvenile black and white) and a normal orange occellaris clownfish. they seem to be doing pretty well also. tank is 10g with 10lb live rock and 20lb live sand(not the tiny particle sand tho). have a few hitchikers like pencil sea urchin and bristleworms. also i cycled tank for two weeks with rock and sand only before adding snail and other cuc.

also my lfs mentioned the water from the bag with clownfish could have copper in it and to not add it to the tank. i poured them into a net after acclimation to avoid getting it in there. could the fish have still had copper on them that got in the water? i am surprised the lfs lets the copper be in their systems.

That's your problem, lfs often have copper in the systems it's a cheap way to keep all their fish looking good

He was dead last night an I took him out. How do I remove the copper? Will water changes work?

I don't think you can remove copper... At all.

I doubt enough copper based medication from the lfs would be present on the fish's skin alone to affect your tank. Most lfs I have come in contact with will run copper in their fish only systems to help acclimate and keep the fish healthy while on display. You would only see a problem if you put their water into your tank, otherwise I think we all would be seeing alot more failing tanks!!

We'll everything else in the tank is doing fine so I guess I'm going to assume his foot got injured but keep an eye on all the parameters etc closely. Thanks everyone
