Different types of Cheato? With pic.

Looks like a Chaeto on steroids. The smaller is the regular type.

What is it? Are there several types of Cheato?

its probably normal chaeto just thicker im not positive though.

Not likely. they grow in the same tank but are distinct and seperate.
Started with one strand, none of the thick gets thinner, none of the regular gets thicker, and there is nothing in between.

I've got some of the same stuff, and am also unsure if it is a different type, or just a different growth form.

It has so far stayed different from the normal cheato in the same 'fuge after several months and growth.

Is it brittle like chaeto?

Yes.
Same texture and stiffness.

There are several species of chaeto.Algaebase

Looks from the pics on the algaebase site that the "regular" chaeto may be Chaetomorpha crassa, and the thicker one Chaetomorpha robusta, but I'm not sure.

Any experts out there?

The thicker one could also be C. linum.
