Are there different kinds of Green Star Polys? I have been looking for some gsp's, and looking at many different pics. Some look super green with big long polyps and others are kind of a pale green with smaller polyps. If I buy one I want it to be the really bright green color. anyone know?

Im not to sure but my uncle gave me what he said were different green star polyps. There is a very small diference i think that i see. And also my live rock came with a coral on it that i think is brown star polyps but again not to sure

There are differnt kinds. I have both the pale green and lime green in my tank. There are also different pink one to. I have the just pink ones and then I have seen the pink with white centers.

Not rare at all. Atleast not around here. The pink were given to me from another reef to start on 2 years agon when I got into saltwater. They grow way toooo fast to be rare.LOL

this thread needed some pics :)

Some pics will look different based on the lighting too. Any GSP taken under actinic lighting or higher temp halides (14k or 20k) will look a heck of a lot more neon, even though under normal lighting they may look a lot less flourescent and more green.

There Are different types of Star Polyps, be it pink, green, orange, or creame. But to my knowledge, all Green polyps are the same, and with age they get bigger and longer...

I think all the different colored Star Poylps are all the same scientific name, just like a rose bubble tip anenome and green bubble tip anenome are both E. Quadricolor

There are at least two distinctly different types of GSP. One is the classic Green Star Polyp (Briarium) with a purple mat that the polyps grow out of.

There is also a type of Encrusting Gorgonian, sorry, can't recall the species off the top of my head, that does a very convincing impersonation of Briarium except the mat the polyps grow out of is a light pink or tan color. They pack a much more potent sting as well.

Just to confuse things more, there are several types of oddball Clavularia, Xenia, etc that I've seen sold as Star Polyps.

Does this frag look like GREEN star polyps to anyone. There is a hint of green in the tips. They were sold to me as GSP.

Sorry Pic doesn't really show any color in the polyps.

Those GSP look exactly like some I have. The very tips are green under certain lighting, but under my compact flourescent they just look very, very light green and tan. I have noticed that they spread alot slower than some other types.
