dimmable T5

I am planning to use T5 as a supplement to the AI LED to enhance coloration of the corals. Just switched to AI LED today and everything looks browner than when I have my HQI/T5 combo. My HQI/T5 combo is 10k MH mixed with 420nm+460nmT5. What do you recommend the supplement should be?

Hi

I strongly do not suggest supplementing the Ai you just need to ge the color balance right, the white is mega strong so if you want a more white look (10K) then lower the bue right down, if you want a yellow tinge (8k) then "maybe" add a simu-L or two for the orange LED.

I think what is missing from the AI LED is the 420nm actinic. Their website indicates that their blue light is 470nm. My HQI/T5 has a 420nm+460nm supplement and I think 420nm is what gives corals the fluorescent look.

I find the blue is over powerful and will be throttling mine back, but this brings me to ask what sort of lighting you are looking for? 10K is white with only a small amount of blue where as 14K is more medium blanced and 20k is quite blue. Maybe this is more what you are looking for, the other end of the scale rather than 10k?

If i wanted a more blue tone I would definately not be looking for 10K. In the UK my old tank I used to run 14K's as I prefer a less blue hue, and will be adjusting my two Ai's more to this and running the blue at about 50% at midday and lowering to 8% by the evening for moonlight, but also adding in the mix a simu-L to provide a sunset and sunrise orange glow, although this is still in theory until i see the effect, maybe more at night rather than morning.

My preferred color range is in the 14k which a 10k with T5 supplement on my old light I think gives me that. The thing that I miss though is the fluorescent of the corals. The tank environment looks nice with AI but I just can't get the corals to be fluorescent.
My yellow toadstool used to look bright yellow now it looks like dull yellow
my tubipora musica used to look white with green fluorescent center now it looks like brown white with dark brown/green center.
Overall the tank just look less colorful than it was before.

how deep is the tank?

I would ramp the blue up to 100% during the day and the whites down to 60-75% this should give an effect similar to 14k

Argh thats the issue then, the lamps can not be more than 8" above the water surface, you will loose to much light. Mine will be 6-8" above

I check with a lux meter and the # seems to be similar to the MH/T5 at that height. But even if I increase the intensity it wouldn't make a difference.

I contacted AI and they recommends 100% blue 35% white but that still would not give me the fluorescent of the corals. I think I will go ahead and supplement AI LED with 420nm actinic. Could you provide me with information on a dimmable T5 that is compatible with profilux and is 72''x4'' (L x W)? Thanks
