Dimming CoralVue Ballasts

No they dont. They just have a dial on the ballast case that allows you to dim them... I wish they had a 1-10v interface, Id be using that on all 3 of my MH's....

If im not mistaken the dial just controls line voltage.... So I dont think it would work.

I wish it would since Im using (3) 250w dimmables, but I dont see how it can.

I am guessing here but I have my doubts it is simply controlling the line voltage directly, this would not be stable enough for MH and would stop the bulb from striking.

The concept of a 1-10V line is actually more likely.

I said this was a guess :)

Well in the name of science I ripped open one of my ballasts and found it isnt hooked up to line voltage. Would there be any way to control this with a profilux ?? Anything else I can check on it anywhere to see if there might be some form or retrofit possible... I can only imagine this would open a TON more possibilities to us and future possible profilux owners....

The socket on the right is incoming power, left is outgoing, and the control is in the center.... How do the dimmable T5 ballasts work, is it just a 2-wire hookup to a 1-10v relay or something ???

I will be following this one with interest, as I also have 3 of the Coralvue dimmable 400w electronic ballasts, and it would be great if the dimming could be achieved using the Profilux to do so.

Cheers
Tony.

Can you comment at all about the LBF-AP interface at all Michael ???

Just curious is that has anytype of restrictions as to the amount of voltage it can support or if any of that would make a difference. It looks like the LBF-AP would control (2) ballasts since I'm seeing what looks like 4 terminals on it.

I seriously dont want to be the guinea pig and risk losing my profilux. If I lost a ballast I wouldnt care, but to have something happen to my controller would not be good.

Does anyone have a better picture of the LBF-AP than the one from cherry corals, or can anyone give me some specs on it ??? Is this a part actually made by an electrical company like Advance, or is this a part made by GHL Profilux ???

Matthias have any input on this ?!?!? Having these things dimming MH's would be HUGE. :D

The only advise i can give is general based solely on the topic of the LBF

The LBF card is designed t accept any 1-10V interface.

Yes the LBF does control two ballasts.

The LBF is merely an interface, the EVG however is also a 0 volt switching devise, but is less tolerant to high loads of MH ballasts, so if you wish to connect high ampages we suggest the LBF-AP

We nor GHL support any third party attempt at modifying equipment.

Are there any MH ballasts available that you know of that will allow the dimming functions that wont void anything ???

What if I buy a spare ballast and ship it to Matthias, would this be something he could look into possibly making work ??? I dont think any of the other controllers out there do this and this could be yet another thing to help swing people over to the Profilux....

Plus it would be sweet to make them all slowly go to full power.

As far as i know, no there is not any MH ballast that gives this option.

I would surprised if GHL would take apart a third party ballast, it would open up a whole can of worms especially in the North American market where liability is a hot topic.

Well Chachijoe75, I think you might be on your own here. I dont want to risk anything happening to my controller and have it not be covered under warranty for any reason.....

Let us know if you decide to try it and what the results are, since I know of quite a few people who would be interested in this.

Maybe GHL could get into something with CoralVue like they pulled off with AI ???

You can ship to me, would really look inside and find out what is the dimming technologie and take from there!

PS Ya ya I know whatever I do or try to do is not supported by GHL or Coralvue.. Red Tape out the way, let have fun!

GHL are working with a few manufacturers right now, nothing to announce for a while so sorry cant field any questions of who what or when.

If I grab my fluke meter should I just be checking to see if its 1-10v control ??? Hmmmmm....... Man I really want to see if something could be pulled off but dont want to risk frying anything.

Well if you have a fluke, then you are qualified.
Check want come in and what come out where the pot(dial/knob) is!
