Ding Dongs breeding adventure BEGINS!

Hello everyone!

After lurking on this forum for some time now I have finally setup a breeding system. Here are some pictures of what I am working with.

Each tank is a 10g with a hang over the back filter and 2" of live sand for filtration purposes. For clownfish I put in 4" clay pots.

Here is a false ocellaris pair I put into one of the 10g tanks yesterday. I spooked them by turning on the lights while they were sleeping so they were not in their usual "feed me I am hungry" position.

I also added eggcrate to the tops of the broodstock tanks so I do not have to worry about jumpers.

Today I picked up a male and female green mandarins. I still need to teach them to eat prepared foods so that will be a mission in its own besides trying to breed them.

I also picked up a nice pair of bangi cardnals too.

Tomorrow I am going to make a fake sea urchin for them to hang in so they feel less stressed.

I also have a pair of true perculas in my solana aquarium that I want to breed but nothing yet has happened so I am playing the waiting game. Here is a picture of them;

I may move them into a broodstock tank for ideal conditions for them to spawn.

I also am getting really good at making phytoplankton per the help and guidance of a few people on this board. Here is my phytoplankton setup.

So at the moment I don't have anything actually breeding but hopefully soon they will be. I hope to learn alot from many of you successful breeders so any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Enjoy

Congrats--
looks like your jumping in head first. Its alot of pairs of critters to start out w/
Have you purchased Matt Wittenrich's book "illustrated guide to marine fish breeding", its a great beginner bible to your future endevours

Glad to see you're starting up! Just a quick question though. Can the fish see from one tank into the next? If you haven't you may want to put paper or something between the tanks so they can't see other fish and possibly get stressed or anything. I'm not even sure if fish can physically see through the glass without getting a reflection.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions everyone.

I just received the book "Breeders guide to marine fish" and already have Joyce D. Wilkersons book "Clownfishes".

I slide a double sided black cardboard paper inbetween each tank and the back so they cannon sea each other.

The bangaii cardnals are eating and doing well. The mandarins are slowly taking to the live brine shrimp for now.

Thanks

Nirvana--
isn't that just a one page review of the 1996 Hoff manual?
I agree that Frank Hoffs original manual on spawning clowns is wonderful and very through, However IMO, Joyce wilkerson did a better job at getting the info in laymans terms and making the subject an easy read.
Eitherway, they're good books, and Wittenrich's recent work is a must have, its current, topical and cutting edge

How are you planning to get the Mandarins to take prepared foods? Read up on Matt Wittenrich's method in http://www.marinebreeder.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=1963. Very neat stuff.

I finally weened my female(?, at least I think it is) mandarin to take frozen mysis and brine shrimp, working on getting her on pellets. Soon going to go an get a male soon and hopefully sparks will start.

good luck! waiting for eggs is a long long wait. After five years we finally have about 5 of our 13 pairs actively spawning
