Dinoflagellates..I know what caused it!

I have 4 different systems in 2 locations. 2 at work and 2 at home. I have added NO coral to any tank in a long time. I am meticulous with water changes and have been in the hobby 25 years. 3 of the 4 are bare bottom and 1 is a frag tank with 1 clown fish.

I dosed FW exit 6 weeks ago to rid the the tanks of red flatworms. Now ALL 4 tanks have dinos !

I don't care what anyone thinks..its the only thing I have done to all all tanks. The FW exit must be killing something other than Flat worms which normally keep the dinos in check...does anyone have a similar situation. Tanks rabke from 3 years to 5 months. Like a jackwagon I thought I would treat all tanks for the heck of it because I saw a couple pests.

Clown fish can import it per recent pics in the chem forum with fish housing dinos on the slime coat.

Agreed.. I think dinos are part of healthy aquarium. I also think there is something in a healthy aquarium that keeps these suckers in check. Just think I killed whatever that check is by using FWExit

Is it plausible that if we are killing flatworms in our systems the dinos are left behind?? Im not a Marine Biologist, but there seems to be a relationship with dinos and flatworms..

Some photosynthetic dinoflagellates are symbiotic, living in the cells of their hosts, such as corals. Called zooxanthellae, they are found in many marine invertebrates, including sponges, corals, jellyfish, and flatworms, as well as within protists, such as ciliates, foraminiferans, and colonial radiolarians.

I battled these things years ago, they are brutal and hard to eradicate. I got out of the hobby soon after that because of school never getting rid of them but I've seen online people have done it, you just have to be super aggressive about it. Blackout the tank for a period of time (wrap cardboard around to stop all light), dosing hydrogen peroxide, don't do water changes I've heard because the nutrients have already been absorbed by the dinos so water changes actually hurt (that was my mistake), raise the alkalinity I believe, all of these together have proven successful for many you just have to be real tough about it.

My tank plagued with Dino after I treated it with FWE. Not sure whether it is coincidence or not but I would like to hear others with similar experience too.

There seems to be a clear link between the two...FWs and Dinos...I wish I had the time to do some research on the topic...

Anyone have a couple thousand flatworms I can have? I would happily reintroduce them to the tank.
