Your tank is only 3 months old, ride it out.

But here is what I did that worked for me, and it came from the recommendation of my local fish store. Take it with your own grain of salt.

Three day blackout. (Turn off lights, leave them off, cover the tank if its in an area of high ambient light).

At end of three days, siphon out/clean/scrub as much of the dead/remaining dino as you can.

Dose the tank with 1 ml of hydrogen peroxide (the topical, low concentration version) per 10 gallons of water once per day for 2 weeks.

I haven't had them come back, and this didn't cause any harm or impact to anything else in my tank that I saw. Your mileage may vary.

I just started my tank in OCT. Been through all stages even with RO/DI. I am now in the clear. Keeping alkalinity on point has helped. Need to do some water changes and siphoning and patience. It will blow over.

yeah i been thru that too i have a biocube that is now almost two years perfect condition hardly do water changes on it now...

i wanted to know if i make a hob refugium on it what could be the flow on it and also will macro algae help with the problem i do make two 15 gallon water changes every week but i stopped for two weeks to see how bad it would get it didnt get that bad fif grow but not much

Do you have anything in it such as fish, inverts, or coral? If not, good.

My tank has been up for 2 months (tank cycled in 3 weeks using live rock and water from my larger tank). Zero algae problem (knock on wood), but it is always hit and miss with new aquariums.

I saw a large amount of diatoms starting after I had a large cycle caused by the live rock. I also had some hitchhiker hair algae. Been in the hobby for 20 years so if you don't nip the algae in the butt quick it will kick your but.

I turned the lights off for two weeks and the hair algae began to turn white and the diatoms went away. Your live rock will survive without light for 2 weeks.

Put some Mexican turbo snails and some smaller turbo snails when the lights are off. They ate my white hair algae and diatoms. Your problem will be gone.

Also, flow is the key to keeping a good algae free tank. What flow do you have in your tank? For a 55 gallon you should have at least a solid return pump and a separate powerhead (turbulent flow design, not point discharge). You need water surface agitation as well.
