Dinosaur egg monti..

I will be getting a frag of this coral next week (or a least this is what it is being sold as, but the pic of the frag I'm getting looks a lot like the example pic on the Reeffarmers site...so I'm hopeful.) This is one of those "Old School" corals that has fallen off the radar, and I remember seeing one in a friends tank a few years back and was impressed with the colors. I was wondering if any other reefers are keeping this coral anymore? Reeffarmers retired theirs (they lost their seed according to their website.) pics if possible would be appreciated...

Heres the write-up from the reef farmers site:
"This massive encrusting Montipora has a bright blue/purple base pigmentation color. Polyps are colored dark purple/blue. Corallites are slightly depressed in form with ridges that run inbetween the corallite centers. What makes this coral very unique is that bright green pigments can develop on the top of these ridges. This makes for a very dramatic pigmentation pattern. The Dinosaur Egg Monti Coral was found and named by Matt Juner of Reefready.net and Mike Obrien of Rarefrags.com . They acquired the coral from a wholesaler within the Bay Area of California in late 2005. Matt has noticed that when the coral is placed in strong light it develops more purple/blue pigments. When placed in weak light the coral develops more green pigments. Please note this coral was retired on December 2008 due to the loss of the seed."
Truly one of the "lost gems" IMO, I heard somewhere that it is not a monti, but rather an Astreopora sp. however, I forgot where I heard that from. It has a beautiful pastel look to it. I can't wait til my piece comes in! Lets bring this one back!!

I tried to import the whole page off the reeffarmers website(they have the only pic I know of on the web) but there wasn't a tag for that specific page!! I know there must be a way to do it I just haven't figured out how...I will try again tonight when I get off work...

That's the pic from Reef Farmers, for anyone who wants to see the pic but is too lazy to go to the RF website. ;)

Schneijt your awesome!! Thanks for getting the pic to this thread!...now that we have a pic to go off of, anyone have this coral? I have noticed that most of the people that have heard of this coral are from cali...strange coincidence?

DAMN.. Denver the last dinosaur !

Looks great.. I have a sunset trying to recover and it's doing great !

That's the pic from frags.org correct? I looked at that as well. It looks similar, however the polyps look different (to me IMO) on this piece. I remember the frag I saw being more pastel than that one ( the blue and green had a "marbled" effect like the Reeffarmers pic). However, the seller mentions that he has lineage to go with this piece. It should also be noted that even Reeffarmers says that it varies in color depending on lighting received. So I guess it could be...Awesome coral either way!! :lol2:
