Diopters

I've been considering getting a cheap set of Diopters off of ebay for my Rebel XT. I was wondering who uses these if you are pleased with the pictures from your tank when using them. I don't have the money for a nice macro lense right now and thought these would be a start. Please post pictures of the pics you get when using the diopters. Also where did you buy them from?

They will cause your pictures to be softer especially at the edges. So it all depends on how crisp you like your pictures to be. Using them on sharp lenses like the cheap 50mm or maybe be a sharp enough zoom could still give good results. the advantage they offer over other "cheap" macro methods like reversing rings or extension tubes is that they won't decrease you working distance as much and will still allow autofocus andmetering. So overall they are the most easy way for macro photography without a macro lens.
on the other side extesnion tubes dont have additional glass in teh way of the light going in so they don't affect your image quality except for making you loose some of the light.
diopters are very handy when in dusty environments which are risky to change lenses so you just put one of them on. you can also combine diopters on each other with the highest magnification ones first from lens side.
