Dipping Corals

I use Kent Marine Tech D dip for 6-7 minutes at recommended dosage. have used it on soft and hard corals with no ill effects so far.

I've recently used iodine based Reef Dip (Seachem). It seems to work. Dipping seems to clean up most critters, but they do get by. Dipping doesn't necessarily nip some critters such as flatworm eggs. Not sure if anything does. But, luckily they were the supposed 'clear' common flatworm that supposedly isn't bad like the red variety.

Don't skimp on a visual inspection as another step. You can catch things like aiptasia visually.

For fragging do an iodine dip for 5-7 seconds then into tank water for as long as you want, then back in the tank in lower flow.

New frags from others I always use CoralRx. Right after acclimation take tank water in two tupperware containers. One for the dip one for the rinse. Add CoralRx at recommended dosage and use a turkey baster to keep water moving for 2-3 mins. Rinse frag off in the rinse container and add to tank.

I've seen Coral Rx, but never heard of anyone using them.

Thank you for the feedback.

I just started on someone's recommendation...Flatworm exit during acclimation. Then Tropic Marin Pro Coral Cure...Then Revive. The tropic marin browns out sps but that's okay if they recover and there are no nasties. None of those kill red bugs though...

flatworms

flatworms

We suspect flatworm infestation d/t evidence of biting on acan's. Have you had any success with dipping in ReVive?

I personally use lugols to dip and then put them in a QT to make sure I got eveyrthing. I can't really help you with the flatworm infestation. Luckily I haven't had to deal with that one yet.

CoralRX says it does and ive had sucess diping a couple zoa colonies in it to erradicate bryopsis. Its not too bad, i did two dips a week apart at the recomended dosage and it hasnt grown back very much at all. I do have GHA in the tank though lol

plus one on lugols I am about to get some sps frags how much lugols per gallon???

I don't know the amount off the top of my head but the container has the proportions for maintenance dosing and coral dipping right on it. I skip the maintenance dose and just use it for dipping. The bottle I have came with a dropper too.

when dipping zoas, do you make sure all of the polyps are closed before dipping? Does it matter how long to leave the coral in the dip (I am assuming read the directions).
