Dipping Xenia

Billy, Travis someone?? I have this coming in a couple of hours. Thanks Ben for your reply.

The question is: What should I use to dip my new blue Xenia before putting it into my display? I have Lugols Iodine, but maybe this would not be good for this Cespitularia.

Thanks Guys, I didn't dip it at all. Luckily that was my choice.

Good choice Joel. Quarantine is the best way on xenia for the reason mentioned, they are prone to die when shipped so extra stress is not good.

Joel I am glad you didn't dip it. I did a STRONG flatworm exit dip which killed any possible hitchhikers.

How do they look? Do you like them?

It is looking good and is opened up. I don't see much blue coloring yet. But I will wait for that.

I would like to see a pic.

I don't see how it would have changed color just do to tank differences. It also is the exact same one I posted the other day and from the same colony as reeffeak recieved.

Also they are not blue like a tort, I think some of the photos online are modified.

Sure Jerry since you gave me my first xenia.

Bret, It is doing well. Remember I didn't really pick this out. I was expecting something Blue. It looks good and is healthy and the wife likes it so that is the important thing. I am happy.

One strange thing, in a matter of minutes or seconds it shrivels up for no reason. After taking these pictures I went back to look to remember which one looked the most realistic and he was all shriveled. Then he started to come out of it.

Joel the next time you are in iowa city let me know, you can come by my house and see the mother colony. That looks like something might have happened to it. It doesn't look normal at all.

If it doesn't color up I can hook you up with another one when you are in iowa city, free of charge. Just let me know.

How are the zoas? Hopefully better...

Bret

Thanks Bret, but I think it will be OK. Jerry might be right, too much flow. I have it in the center of the tank with nothing directlt blowing on it. But on either side of the tank I have a Koralia 3 pushing water on a twenty minute cycle. I will maybe try moving it to a more sheilded spot.

When you say it doesn't loom normal, what do you mean? I want to make sure it isn't the photo. My camera isn't great.

It just doesn't look blue at all. Look at the pic on the previous thread of it and you can see the base is a nice blue color. You can see in your pic it still has the green glitter color due to the flash. Maybe it just needs some time.

As long as the wife is happy, that is all that matters.

It should be fine. I have noticed my Cespitularia shrivels up every once in awile also but its perfectly healthy. I have it in moderate flow and at the top of the tank close to the lights. I have it under 14k halide and Actinic PC's. It has a nice blue glow and is visibly growing rapidly.
