Disable Fish Care on a 6055

Roger is there a way to disable fish on a 6055 power head?

Some background on what I am trying to do. I have a Tunze 6055 controllable pump that I am looking to add to my sump in case of a power failure. The pump will normally be off unless there is a power failure in which case it will come on and be powered via the safety connector and an alternate power source. The APEX has backup power as well in the event of a power outage to be able to continue controlling the pumps. Once the APEX detects the power failure and it has been off more than 15 minutes it will turn on the 6055 in the sump to circulate the water periodically in the sump.

To get the water to flow over all the baffles in the sump I have placed the 6055 very close to the top of the water in the sump. When the fish care kicks in it creates bubbles in the sump. Of course in a power failure water from the tank will drain into the sump ensuring the 6055 is completely under water thus no bubbles are created.

Thanks for the help.

If the pump was switched at the power supply by the Apex, it would not run in FishCare. It can only run in FishCare if it has power and the controller port signals it to be off. The way to do this is to just plug it into a switched outlet that kicks on only when needed.

Will this still work if connected to a safety connector and 12v power source? Meaning if the power supply is not plugged in and it is getting power for the safety connector will fish guard still be enabled?

Thanks Brad.

Yes, in that case it would not be defeated, if the safety connector is used, once the power supply is off, it will run in fishcare off the safety connector. To solve this you would need a relay between the battery and safety connector that would be off until the power actually failed. On the newest pumps fish care is such a brief twitch I am not even sure this would be something to worry about. On older pumps it was a few revolutions but now it is about a 1/2 turn.

Thanks Roger. I have a 120v input normally open relay that will monitor the power and if the power is off will switch to the closed state allowing the 12v power to the 6055 to pass through. It will work fine in this case as I only want this pump to run it the power is out.

Thanks for the help.
