Is it possible that my Emerald Mithrax ate the poor thing? Just got them yesterday, and todaycan only find one. Hes not in overflow, is about 1-1.25 inches and the mithrax is about 1.5-2 inches across. Anyone heard of Mithrax eating a fish? Also, is it common for clowns to hide when first in tank? The other one is out and about.

it is not uncommon for clownfish to hide but usually only for a short while. It is quite possible for a mithrax to either kill a clown and/or eat the body if the fish died overnight.

ok, found him, took a ride on the "overflow express", through the teeth, hopped the filter, down the drain, into a sock, hopped out of sock and wall and into the sump, near the skimer.

He was been down there for at least a whole day.

What now you ask? well ill tell you! he has white spots, some small, specks really 1 or 2, but a larger one on his tail, maybe the size of a pea? Am i looking at brooklynela and what can i do in a reef tank? any effective dips? I dont have nor am i capable of getting a quarantine tank. ANy suggestions will be appreciated.

That was not a bit helpful Juck.

I dont feel like explaining myself to someone who writes me off so quickly, so i wont. However i am interested in advice/aid in dealing with the setup i have available thanks.

Anyways, for those reading. paranoid android aside, I dipped the infected guy in freshwater for 10 minutes, then about an hour later, dipped both in a Rid Ich+ bath for 30 mins. Will repeat the Rid Ich+(15 mL/L formalin, plus small amount malachite blue) tomorrow night if it seems to be needed. Both little buggers are swimming around like champs.

glad you found him. The fw batch should have removed the ich spots from the body. Unfortunately the ich is probably now in your tank and the only way to really get rid of it is to leave the tank fallow for 2 months or more. The easiest approach is to simply treat them for outbreaks as you are. Once they are healthy they should be able to fight off the ich on their own.

There are no spots on either today, i think they may have been solely stress related marks? There was never any lethargy or labored breathing, or reddish gills, and both fish are just fine today. Hopefully not ich, but i have battled ich many times and have done enough research to know the cycles. If there are no fish to infest, the Ich dies. I am not a believer that Ich is always in the water once it is introduced. It is an obligate parasite. Without a host (a.k.a. healthy fish or no fish-fallow) then there will be no more cycling of Ich. Cycle is about 3-4 days in temperatures of 80+F and faster with more heat for MOST types of Ich.
