Disappeared YWG shows up pale white

I bought a very small Yellow Watchmen Goby about a month and a half ago and the Longnose Hawkfish immediately attacked it while I watched nearly biting it in half. The Goby was nowhere to be seen after that and I assumed the Hawkfish had eaten it. Then, tonight, 6 weeks later I see a strange fleshy thing in the tank from across the room and it was a Goby! About twice the size (maybe not) of the one I put in the tank and not at all yellow, no color at all really. At first I thought it might be a free gimme fish that LiveAquaria put in with an order I just received, but know I didn't put a new Goby in the tank. It has to be the original fish. But, do they lose their color like that and if so, will it come back? I found one thread on RC that discussed this briefly, but I wanted to see if anyone else had experience with formerly Yellow Watchmen Gobies

They have two colors forms, and they can change from yellow to white or white to yellow. It is a long term change (i.e they don't change day-to-day). Nobody knows why they change.

It could change back to yellow, but probably won't.

I had one that changed from yellow to white and back to yellow. Always wondered if it was a maturation process...

Did the color changes of yours correspond to a major event like tank upgrade or moving?

I bought a white one 10 years ago and he turned yellow shortly after I got him. He was yellow for the next 9 years in 7 different tanks, and just turned white again last year shortly after upgrading to my current 180g.

Nothing special. Had it about 6 months and it changed. 3 months or so later it changed back.
