Disappearing cheato

So I got a large clump of cheato about 2 months ago for my fuge and it has been steadily decreasing in size over the past few weeks. I have my drain in the first chamber, a bubble trap, my fuge, then return. The drain creates decent flow into the fuge, could that be causing it to break apart and dwindle in size? What can I do to stop this?

How well is it lit, and does your tank have enough nutrients to support it?

Ive heard of people putting it in mesh bags to help keep it feim breaking apart slowly

its got a 65w led light from home depot6 inches above my fuge, many have had success with it so I tried it, yet to see growth. My nitrates were at 0, could be low on nutrients.
