Disappearing Clownfish

Our maroon clownfish disappeared overnight. We don't have any other fish in the tank right now. We couldn't find his body anywhere. Is it at all possible his host anenome ate him? I know that sounds crazy but we're grasping at straws here. I had fed the anenome yesterday afternoon...

Hello and welcome- they do indeed appear to mysteriously vanish at times, but there's almost always an explanation. If your anemone is an RBTA it's highly unlikely it ate it, but not impossible; other more predatory anemone species, perhaps. Also, in a 150g tank, you probably have a fair amount of rockwork? They can be experts at getting in a nook or cranny- or being eaten by something residing there, such as a crab or starfish. Overflows and sumps are good places to look, and some are jumpers that our dogs or cats (or housemice?) may get to before we notice them anywhere on the floor. Sorry it's not turning up!

I rescently lost a 6 line wrasse. I have to assume it either got eaten by a rbta or the CLC did the job. I have never seen it come very close to the rbta but I guess anything possible. These are preditory animals and I think if the opportunuty presents they would take it, but I have only heard of clowns getting eaten by carpets. Sorry for the loss, it stings. : (
