Disaster! All is lost! :(

I have been moving and neglecting my tank. I went to clean the algea- do a water change- add some calcium and was going to give it a few days to stabilize b4 i moved it. Somehow- the heater got moved and the water was 100+ when I went yesterday. Everything is dead absolutley nothing made it- including the first fish I ever bought two years ago.

Please accept my most sincere apologies.I can totally sympathize. That same very thing happened to me about 3 years ago. I know you must be devastated but I can guarantee you there are a lot of people in this fine community who are willing to help you get back going again. Keep your head up! Things happen. You will overcome it!

I am sorry to hear that. Did you have a bunch of corals or just fish? I have plenty of Chaeto and cabbage leather that you are welcome to.

Maybe when these things happen we could have everyone bring a frag of something to the next meeting.

Sorry to hear about what happened. Maybe it's time to re-think the actual need of a heater. I've got 7 tanks, not a heater on any of them, winter or summer.

At least, on the brighter side, should make moving a little easier......

That is sooo sad. I second bwaynes idea. I could bring you some more stuff. I have a colt and a sun coral frag I have been saving for you.

aw u guys are sweet! thanks for all the offers. It will be making hrte move much much easier. :( I need a heater on my tank though.

Sorry to hear that. Same here, a heater malfunciton on me 2 years ago and kill 90% of live stock and corral. Man... l still have gosse bump when i think about it. But dont give up, ihang on and you will have a better looking tank. Can can bring you some zoos frag..let me know if you are interested. Take care. JohnLe

heaters scare me....most of the time our lights alone can keep the temp up. sorry for your lost....we all in the hobby will go through this once or twice no matter the experience...

I understand the need for a heater... during the day my tanks are up to 81, at night they have gone as low as 72. The heater is just added at night for stabilization.

I don't have anything available at the moment and there are a few people in line for some of my stuff, but I'll gladly help you get started with another little something.

I was actually thinking about hooking my heater up to the timer my refugium light runs on so that it there is no chance it can be w/ the metal halides, Ive had 2 different brands of heaters in there and i can look at my heater and itll be on in the day, and my water temp will be 80+

I feel your pain myself. I've got redundant systems for taking care of heat related issues, but they all relied upon a single temperature probe. It was accidentally removed from my tank recently and the tank spiked to 90F. Even though the heater had its own backup controller, even it failed and 500w of heating was on even at 90 degrees. I lost 75% of all the corals in my tank (which was packed with SPS). So note to all, make sure your probes can't be removed easily (mine now requires scissors to remove).

One benefit, I was fighting a hair algae problem related to forgetting to change out my DI cartridge. Along with the corals, all the nusiance algae in my tank melted before my very eyes (and hasn't returned). Gives a new meaning to "cooking your live rock".

Good luck in getting back up. Nice thing about the club is that there are so many who are willing to share corals. If there is anything you need, I have some very heat resistant corals I can give you.

That sucks!!

If you come up this way,
I've got a few corals you are welcome to.

PM me and I'll let you know what I've got.

sorry to hear about the heater.

you should get a temperature controller that will shut it off it the heater goes nuts.
