Ditto... got back in town last night & just read this thread, and it sounds like you are OK, but if you need it I have a 250w DE setup I'm not using right now that you could borrow. I live in New Town - Elm Street to north of 370.

Hello all

I am back up and running

everything is in good condition and I have water flow again .

I really don't know about the whole draining the tank thing to drill it . I have been thinking a things to do to make sure this doesn't happen again .

All the lights are working fine .I will need to get to the store to buy new timers and power strips until I can get a GFI set up .

Xenia made it out ok and everything in the tank is getting back to normal now .

Much love and thanks to all that have been with me through this .

If there is anything I can do for any of you please don't hesitate to ask .

Glad it worked...one suggestion though, if you use another external overflow make sure it is a U-Tube design, they tend to not floof your floors. LifeReef and Quietflow are good ones as is Amiracle. I have only had one issue with one and it was because it ran non-stop so long the algae inside it grew enough to restrict the flow. I have used this one for 2 years now. I also have a QuietFlow that has been in continuous use for a year now...go with U-Tube it is a superior design.

Seems to me some form of relay could be set up to turn off a pump if the flow stops. Maybe with an eye that when it's NOT inturrupted, it would turn OFF instead of ON like in a tunze top off.

Something I have is a wet alarm setting on the top brace which is just a tiny bit below the glass lip. If that gets wet it beeps like a fire alarm. That doesn't do any good when no ones home though. Those sensors can be cut off and attached to the digital inputs of an Aquacontroller though and the aquacontroller will email or page you.

Sounds like you need a tank blow out sale on a reef ready.

Maybe a type of floating switch to turn off the return pump if the water level in the tank gets too high and vice versa for the sump (somehow stopping the overflow if the sump water level gets too high)

That works I had one setup like that on my 75gal. It was in the main tank and if the water level went to high it shut of the return. The only problem I had was the float switch I had would start back on as soon as the water level started to back down. So it would kick off/On/off/on and so on Till I noticed.. I believe www.autotopoff.com has one to where once it shut off it doesn't come back on. If they don't have one like that I'm sure that guy can make it.

Those float switches on ebay and at floatswitches.net (or something like that) can be mounted to be on or off at neutral position. You could relay with it and have it turn off the pump when the level in the sump went too low. Although an auto top off may compete with it.

if the auto top off for fresh water is in the sump. most of the time when you shut off the pump the level rises in the sump which would not make the top off kick on. Right? If so that should work just fine.

Well for now I hooked the air line off the top of the overflow to a maxijet 1200 ans once all the air that was in the overflow was removed it is working fine . Here isn't as many air bubbles now so the tank is clear except for the occassional air bubble now and then seems to be working .

I had mine hooked to a Maxijet 1200 too. Make sure you keep the maxijet clean or it will do it again. I would find another option as soon as you can. You are not the first to have a tank over flow from them and you will not be the last. It happen to me twice thank goodness I was at home both times.
