I have a 75 gallon salt tank just fish for about 3 years it seems when ever i add fish new fish brake out with red spots and die all the time the store that i get my fish from tells me to read a book. Can any one give me a good store to go to? By accident i ran into reef central site what a great site! Thanks

welcome to RC & to LIRA!

try to search in the forums for red spots, I personally have no experience with "red spots" only black, white & brown.

also, you might want to consider going to another LFS.

good luck!

welcome.

lots to learn here.

check out the beginners forum, and the fish disease forum. very good "sticky" threads up top there with boatloads of info.

I have never heard of red spots, so cant help there. As for lfs, I like aqua hut. I like-it-uh-lot.

its like a big red spot not small spots.I spent so much money at aqua hut my freind tells me his prices are great but i have to learn me self.Any other stores that can be a good sourse of help?

If your looking for customer service i would recommend Joe at suffolk fish and reef in ronkonkoma (although a little pricy), And Les at Fishy Inc in bayshore. But in my experience just because someone owns or works in a fish store does not make them the all knowing source of information about fish. Don't get me wrong they can be a huge help, but you have the experience and opinions of thousands of people here, rather than just one. I never had red spots, but i did have a problem with new fishing dying and someone reccomended a UV sterilizer and i havent had a problem since, might just be coincidence. good luck.

This thread lists all the long Island LFS...

I personally Like Aquahut for drygoods but Don gets very busy and has a tough time giving advice. Les is awesome at Fishy INC, I really like going to him when I am in that area! I don't think you can beat the health of the fish at Suffolk County Fish and Reef, although like someone above said they are a bit pricy.. When I buy a fish that I plan on keeping for a long time $10-$15 extra really isn't a big deal to me.

Good luck, we are lucky to have so many stores out here :)

Ha thanks for the ideas and i will seek out a new store for my fish and get help.I am so glad to find this forum thanks again and from what i understand there is a fish club? Please let me know how to become a member?

Do you have any fish currently showing those symptoms? If so ,a good picture would be well worthwhile or since I'm currently working in Sayville myself, I could be bribed with good beer to stop by and take a look ;)

I've started going to a LFS in Massapequa. It's a fairly new store and the owner, Sheng, is really helpful. His prices aren't bad and his livestock looks healthy to me. I got a tongue coral and a plate coral from him and they're doing great. The phone number is 516-798-3940. He gives a discount to reef club members, too.

Bill, if I knew you helped for beer, I could have saved a small fortune and probably some nice fish, too! But we're in Bethpage, not Sayville.

Where in Massapequa, and what's the name?

On Carmans Rd, in the Pathmark shopping center. It's south of Southern State, north of Sunrise, west of Rte 110, on the border of Amityville and Massapequa. The name is Animal House Pets and Aquarium or something like that...

I did hear about that place once before, but I had forgotten all about it. I'll have to get over there, I like to at least take a look at every new store in the area.
