Dive Buddy in Bonaire

Heading to Bonaire end of April and looking at staying at Dive Buddy. Reading both good and bad (which is the same for most all the places) and was wondering if any of you had input from personally staying there.

Let me know

Thanks

I've only been once (stayed at the plaza) and having nothing but good things to say. If you've never been to Bonaire-you are in for a treat. Aqautic life galore. The countryside is a little barren-Spanish called it useless Island for a reason (of course that was before the Dutch started filtering seawater!). Are you familiar with Bonaire talk message board? EVerything you need to find places to stay-eat, shop hookup with a DB, and even an underwater cam!

Thank Ocello. Yes I have been checking out Bonaire talk. I am really excited about this trip. I have dove quite a few places around the world but always wanted to go here, so really looking forward to it.

I stayed at Buddy Dive about a 2 years ago and had a great time. Rooms are clean and fairly nice and has a great outside bar. Great diving right from the resort. The shore diving around the island is awesome! Boats are in pretty good shape and the divemasters that we had took us to great sites. The resort give you a small pickup to drive around the island for shore diving. Next time i go I wont even bother with the boats, shore diving only.

You'll have a great time! Probably one of my favorite places to dive.

I have heard the same thing about boat diving there (not needed) I think the package we are getting comes with 6 boat dives, but I am really looking forward to the 24/7 shore diving.

Glad to hear there are good dives right off the resort.

Do you have a "Must do" dive in Bonaire?

We also have the truck - so a dive anywhere on the island. Want to make sure and hit the "great ones", as I suppose in Bonaire they are all "good ones"

OK we are set to dive at the end of April. Staying at Buddy Dive and really looking forward to it. Will take lots of photos and post when we get back.

Thanks for everyones input.

I stayed at Buddy dive ~3 yrs ago. I enjoyed the resort as it was well tended. The breakfast was really well done. We would generally load up at breakfast and then hit the road for a day of diving. Lunch and dinner were okay, but nothing to write home about. Much better places around town to explore for dinner.

If you are looking to save some pennies it might be worth the time when you get there to stop by a grocery store and pick up some easy lunch items. As you drive around the island to dive at the various locations it is might nice to have a picnic lunch in hand.

Shore diving at Buddy Dive was awesome! My dad and I logged plenty of dives from the House Reef during our week their. Mostly night dives and early morning dives. I really liked the night dives on the House Reef because of the amount of macro life that would be out. Also, the House Reef tarpons (~5-6') will follow you and buzz during your dive.

I would highly suggest booking a boat dive for the Town Pier when you get there. I opted out and I certainly regret it. Seahorses, frogfish, and other macro life to see in that spot.

Good luck and have fun!

Jefft72,

Thanks for the dive locations. Love seahorses and frog fish so will have to do the Town Pier dive.

Any other locations we just must dive?

We did not dive in the park on the north side of the island, so I don't have any input on those. We dove from the southern tip up the west coast of the island. The Hilma Hooker is very cool to do (I think we did it a couple of times). The barracuda and tarpon that hang around the wreck are very fun. A dive site near the south end was a butt kicker for us. I don't recall which, but there was a ton of current and some of our group turned back. Coming back was a breeze though :) There were huge fan corals that were laying over in the current and fish fighting the surge.

I don't think you can wrong really with any dive there...I know it has been said many times, but it's the truth. My dad and I did 3 or 4 dives a day and many of those were the house reef. Still did not get tired of it and there was plenty of different things to see each time.
