Dive sites in Brazil

Can anyone recommend some good dive sites in Brazil? We are going to a wedding next may. Not sure where yet but we want somewhere easily accessible and inexpensive.

I have dove Brazil yet, however I've met many Brazilian divers over the years. Without question, Fernando de Noronha is considered the best area. Being protected islands far off the coast, they're not cheap or easy to get to. I've heard that around Rio and Bahia has some good diving. Maybe some of Brazilian members can give some information.

I just read an article about Noronha in sport diver mag. It seems like a great destination, but even the locals can't afford it. So that and the time it takes to get there would take it off the list. I'm thinking more along the lines of a day trip with two, 2 tank boat dives. What's your log book like ace. So far I have 34 dives and my mom(newly certified) has 14. Plenty of experience with water:beachbum: for the both of us, but new to scuba.

Sounds like a great trip. Brazil sounds like a great location. Where will you be staying?Diving has become very popular there. Hope you post some pictures.

As for me, I'm a divemaster. I've been diving over 30 years. I dive a lot locally in Southern California. I've lived overseas and have dove a lot in the Indo/Pacific. Some of the places I've dove include; NYC, Florida (all over) the Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii, Japan, Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Mauritius, Red Sea and East Africa.

This will be our second trip there. It will be to visit our first exchange student who lived in Vitoria the first time we visited. I don't know where we will be this trip since he moved and his fiancee is from somewhere different. We returned from Couracao last month. Spent a week. I've always been a fish but just got into scuba a few years ago. I got certified last year on a trip to Bonaire, and I had so much fun my mom decided to finally take the plunge so to speak this trip. We go with a dive shop called Manta Divers out of Kenosha. I have several videos of the trip on my youtube channel.(dangappa) Their are also several fishtank videos as well as me playing around at the bottom of the local pool. You've been to so many amazing places it's hard to fathom. I will try to swing an all included trip to Fiji next year, but with Brazil in May and Fiji in April, I don't know. They say you never work a day in your life doing something you love so much. Ask around for me would you? Really no hurry since it's more than a year away. My mom could even translate a post from Portuguese easily if that's necessary. I appreciate it.

I think my mom is hooked.:crazy1: What is your fav/best part about diving in Fiji. Keeping in mind I know its a big place, [many many islands right], and I have no idea where the dive resort will be. How's the overall condition of the reefs, and what are the big attention getters? Is the area documented at all on the PADI website? Thanks

Keep in mind I was in Fiji 15+years ago. I went to Kadavu island. It was very basic and very not touristy. In fact, the "resort" we stayed at was almost like a B&B. No hot water and meals with the family. The reefs were fantastic. Fiji has some world class diving. Very good visibility, coral (soft and hard) and fish life including schools of hammerheads were the big attention getters. Fiji is very well known for soft coral and in some locations sharks. Taveuni is said to have some great diving. If you're looking for a good website, try scubaboard.com.
