Divers Den Purchasing ?

Sniping is an art. You have to work and understand the web site and do all the tricks. Think of how to do it in the fewest clicks possible. Multiple windows is usually enough though, depending on how the site's checkout process works. Looking at liveaquaria, it seems the order lines in the database are from the cart, instead of being generated when you hit the checkout button. So I'd add some random item I want to the cart page, get to the payment screen, enter all my information, then when the item pops up, hit add to cart and finalize order in different windows. I'm not 100% certain this would work, but it's what I'd try. Maybe even place a test order, then call and cancel it, if they allow it. Although if I was really willing to go through all that to steal a specific fish, I might reevaluate how I make my life decisions.

Also if people are going through all that LiveAquaria should reevaluate how they put fish on Diver's Den. I don't want to say raise prices for the rare, but it is an option. A waiting list might be a more fair solution.

It brings some excitement to see the daily fish list. And you know what you are buying at the moment of your purchase, which is something a waiting list does not do. They need to start Sat and Sunday lists too :)

If there was a waiting line it would truly be first come first serve. You also wouldn't have to buy it if you were on the waiting list, maybe given 24 hours or something.

A waiting list defeats the purpose of what you see is what you get.
If you want a waiting list you can call DFS, Bluezoo, PIA, NY Aquatics or any other retailer and see if they will work to get the fish you want.

How long would you be waiting for a fish 6 months - several years?
If you are not ready to care for the fish when they call your number then what happens? What happens if you buy the fish from a different retailer?
Is DFS suppose to call several people for each fish they sell until they find someone on the waiting list who is ready to buy it?
Just the cost of maintaining these lists will drive up the price of fish.
If it ain't broke don't fix it.

You can design a simple system that emails you and gives you 24 hours. Texting people is just as simple. If you've been waiting several years, and now it's too late, just say no or wait the 24 hours till it goes to the next person. I don't think it would be that complicated. They have alerts now for other items, just not reservations.

Why do you want this waiting list so bad?

Each person gets 24 hours, then DFS could potentially be holding a single fish for a long time if the first few people don't want the fish. A waiting list over complicates something that already works really well.
I've missed out on a few fish because someone else bough them but it isn't a big deal because I have plenty of fish that make me happy and I'll just get the fish the next time around.

Limit the wait list to a few people. What's even better about this is LiveAquaria now knows what fish are in demand.

a waiting line and you wouldn't have to buy it???

the waiting line part here with dd is where you get a sneak peek a few hours before the fish are shown each night...if you are interested be at your comp ready to purchase it that second and not up to a day later...

DD, Race, and Kevin...please leave things are perfect as they are!

they know what is in demand as they see what sells immed. each night...heck, most of us in here know what is in demand and can say which fish in their sneak peek will sell almost immed. that night...

also, you can also go to la and sign up for an email alert of any fish you want but is not in stock...this is another way they have their finger on the pulse of what fish are in demand...

Maybe add a Sat and Sun mailing list too :)

Yeah... And who said that they could take off on Christmas Day !

Seriously, do you want to pay MORE $ for their fish

...let's ask them to have a courier and helicopter available 24/7/365 to personally deliver to our home, immediately, all purchases!

I was going to leave this topic alone...

The site and system work fine. Getting the "hot" item you want is a bit of an art, but quite do-able if you have fast fingers and know the tricks (I'm not giving those away; sorry :) ). There are tips on LADD for such if you go looking.

I think they must have heard you - I called yesterday to order a Harlequin Tusk (on sale) on a whim since it was Easter. I did not actually expect them to be open. Sure enough I had a friendly voice on the other line to take my Order and to apply rewards points for a prior purchase (Bellus Angel - a beauty!). Waiting for the helicoptor to land on my roof with the Tusk as I type (or at least by Fedex tomorrow...).:bounce3:

i got an email alert for an item ive been wanting to get and when i clicked on it...IT WAS SOLD!!!!!

tmobile on iphone 5 with edge didnt help either. lol

Seriously nice response...
Why do you think a weekend mailing list would increase their overhead by that much money? It is very clear to me that the cost of a fish has very little to do with DFS in-house operating expenses and more to do with supply and demand, tranportation costs, etc... If their operating expences were so high you wouldn't see $30 fish, they would all cost several hundreds of dollars.
