Divers Den questions

If you properly acclimate fish into your QT; does SG of 1.020 or 1.025 really matter with fish? Not in my opinion, but maybe I'm missing something.

It only matters because I prefer to set my QT at the incoming salinity and ajusting salinity to my DT or use Hypo ( if needed) over several days, as opposed to drip aclimating a fish for salinity.

Which is recommended practice.

it helps to have your QT the same salinity so you don't have to take the time to acclimate since those fish have sat in their own waste for a day. When I ordered from LA I had my Qt at 1.020 and could drop my fish right in after temp acclimation.

I don't do hours of drip acclimation,I pretty much follow LA's procedure and usually have the fish adjusted to the QT params within 1 1/2 hrs. Whatever works. I live in the boonies, FedEx delivers at 3PM. I drive 15 min and pick them up at the FedEx "hold at location" site at 9AM, this makes a big difference too. Also, PH in a shipping bag can be very low, so acclimation is needed in that area also. My Qt is usually at 1.020 anyhow, maybe a tad lower.

DD is the best, Liveaquaria ia great.

I've ordered many times over the last 7 months, 2 in the last month and they came from all 3 places (DD, Cal, FLA)...no issues....free shipping over $225.00! get a couple of reefers together to make that happen if you need to!

We've put a loose list of people together that all live in small towns & rural areas. Some are as far as 1 1/2 hours (in every direction) from the FedEx "hold at site" location. We keep each other up on buy days and meet at FedEx at 9AM with our own coolers. Split up the livestock & go home. This works great for frozen food orders too, not just the small savings when you split shipping; but you can't find a good selection of frozen food within 3 hours of my house; Drs. F&S have everything. We meet for breakfast an hour early and its really the only time I ever see other hobbyists. Ours is not a big world.

I just re-read this thread and have to wonder how many folks are saying '' What's a QT"?

I don't do hours of acclimation either, that's depleting and stressing the fish out more than it suppose to help. When the fish comes in, there's barely any oxygen left, and putting them in a "life support" is just adding salt to the wound.
What I usually do is just do the half and half method of acclimating after a 15 min temp acclimation.

Do you qt your fish from there in addition? Yes I QT everything wet, a minimum of 5 to 6 weeks no matter where I get it! If there is something I am looking for I watch DD daily.

Have you had many issues with illness? Ich, other problems? Rarely If I do I do my best to catch it in one of my QT systems.

What is their salinity? Divers Den 53ppt or very close.

How are they about their 14 day promis? The very best, I have found if there is a problem even after the 14 days they stand behind there fish and corals! This is unheard of with other vendors. IME

Just what has been your experience. I am a little gun shy after losing two fish this week, but need to forge forward, because this si something i have wanted to do for so long.

Divers Den is the GOLD standard bar none!

Well, the point of QT is not just for diseases, it's so that to fish can easily adapt to the home aquaria without having to compete with others that have already been established.

That's a HUGE +1 on that.

I remember when I first started, I would just temp acclimate and just hope for the fish to get well. I would throw all kinds of fish in the tank and just wake up the next day with ich all over them... total nightmare.

+1,000. You'll never get another chance like it to make sure they're eating and try different things if they're not.

+10,000 Sensitive fish need time to acclimate to the new feeding protocol. Strongly recommended.

+, well, whatever. IMO, the idea that a QT routine stresses a fish is one of the most widespread and completely incorrect rumors around our hobby. A proper QT set up is great for fish, starting to feed and learning about the presence of people----without all the competition are just two more benefits.

I could not agree more with both of the above posts. The upside is so much greater than not using one, for long term success I feel it's a must have!

Yes, and sooner or later, almost all hobbyists will agree. Its a shame that so many fish (and fishkeepers) don't believe it until the inevitable happens. Every resource book I've ever seen on our hobby strongly pushes QT; but (according to LA), less than 10% have them. Maybe a big reason for the high turnover in our hobby? Duh!

I have to add that its so easy to use a QT. All it takes is a little effort and a tiny bit of space. Anybody that has had problems with QT or has questions about it are highly encouraged to ask questions. There are many of us willing to help in this department. I would love to see the hobby grow in this department.

Words of wisdom, adding fish without qt'ing them is such an easily avoidable risk.

To the original question, you'll find no one better in this hobby than divers den. There's no need to hesitate, I seriously doubt you'll find any complaints about them.
