DIY 2-Part Ca/Alk users - can you maintain levels? lets share some experiences

No kalkwasser and no calcium reactor. Both too much of a pain. I have seen way more systems have unanticipated problems with both than the simple two part mix addition.

I do mix slightly weaker than Randy's recipe at 1.75 cups/gal. This is due to temperature of ro/di water. I am too lazy to warm it. I do have some extraordinary uptake during some periods in the summer.

I also bake my baking soda into washing soda to help with pH. Thats the biggest PIA as I cannot find straight washing soda around here.

I have been using washing soda and calcium chloride for a long time. Until about 8 months ago I added it by hand daily in two doses. I have never seen any ill effects and have always been able to keep up. I do use 2.5 gallon buckets just to avoid having to mix too frequently.

Up until Randy's comprehensive article, I was not a big water changer and did not even think about chloride/sulphate effects. I never noticed a problem. I have adopted a beter water change program since, although not just for that reason.

If I wasn't lazy by nature I would adjust the dosing to 24 equal doses. The reason I went with ten initially was my uptake was about 400 ml and that was easy to divide by ten and enough per dose to easily measure output with a measuring cup.

DO NOT TRUST AQUADOSER STATED OUTPUT. It is highly variable based on downstream conditions. You should also regularly check your alkalinity tubing and output rates. It will develop crystals over time.
