i havent been able to find any dowflake for the calcium solution or any of the all-clear pool additive as of yet and i am doubtful i will find any of the ice melting products this time of year but i was looking at some pool chemicals manufactered by hth/arch chemicals and found a product called calcium up the ingredients off of the MSDS sheet lists
calcium chloride 90-94%
water 2-4%
sodium chloride 1-2%
potassium chloride 1-2%
Magnesium chloride 1-2%
would this be a useable substitute for dowflake etc. and what would you recommend the amount added to ro/di water to make a gallon of solution be if this is a useable substitute
thanks james

We cannot tell if it is suitably pure or not. Assuming it is, use roughly 15% less than my recipe calls for in terms of the calcium part.

thanks for the fast response randy i will call arch chemical on monday and see if they are willing to tell me if there is any possibility of contaminates in this product that would be a hazard to an aquarium
