Diy 60 gallon internal external overflow bean animal style.

Hey everyone,

I'm new here at reef central. I've been lurking for a while and have been researching the bean animal thread for quite some time and I have a pretty full grasp on how the whole setup works. That being said, I'm going to implement the system a little different from most people. I'm a freshwater planted tanker, and my main goal is to make a more automatic tank for easier maintenance. Therefore, I'm going for a display sump combo. My main tank will be 60 gallons (36"L X 19"W X 20" H) and the sump will be the same size. After much deliberation I've settled upon a sump design that is ideal for my planted needs and have already started setting it up:

My next step is to get the plumbing for the main display squared away. I plan on doing an external bean animal setup with a target goal of 600GPH +-50. Plan on using eheim 1260 pump as the return and 1" pvc pipe for the piping. This is planted once again so high flow is not necessary. Going to be using schedule 80 bulkheads as this will be in a high flow traffic area of the house with kids one day.

So here comes the stuff that I have questions on.
I do not care so much for complete skimming as usual reefers desire, therefore, I'm going to mount the overflow on the side of the tank instead of along the back. I have looked into several people who have designs that have worked for them.

These are some of the designs that I've been basing mine off of.

And here is a Cad drawing that I completed myself with my own actual sized side wall dimensions.

1. Do these dimensions look acceptable? If not what would you change? I based my design on the diagram that uncleof6 has floating around on here.

My goal is to be as silent and turbulent free as possible. Will this fit the bill?

2. How deep should each overflow box be? As in, the space between the tank wall and the boxes? I've heard 2" for the internal and 6" for the external?

What do you think about my build?

Maybe I should put a little background on myself. I've been an aquarium enthusiast for the past 5 years or so. I'm currently an Electrical Engineering major and am working on several automation projects for my tank which I will post more on later. This is my first sump design however, so I appreciate the advice and criticism.
Here is a link to my current planted tank thread for reference: Here
