DIY Acrylic fun

well I just ordered most of the supplies to start building my carbon reactor it will be clear acrylic tube with black flanges and red caps because I like spiffy looking stuff lol it will be sealed with o-rings and have thumb screws holding it together for easy maintenance!

If this goes good I will be building similar phosban reactor and a Kalk reactor and a auto shut off collection up for the skimmer so if any of my fellow East Tennessee reefers want something made PM me and we might be able to work something out

Ill post pics once work begins hopefully it will all be in by the end of the week!!!

I'd definitely be interested if it comes out alright... I have my own design I'd like to try... Its really not at all complicated... I just can't see spending $170 on a media reactor... But it might come to that...

here are a couple of quick pics of a couple things I threw together tonight the first one is a acclimation box made to hang on the edge of a tank and the other one is a filter sock holder I built it first and didnt like the hook so the one on the acclimation box got bent instead and like I said these were just threw together with some scrap and a jigsaw so im looking forward to some good quality work

Figured I would add a little update I have all materials but nylon thumb screws and o-rings and they are scheduled to be delivered monday so all is looking good and hopefully by the end of the day I will have one ready to go minus the screws and o-rings

Just finished cutting the first flange except the part I screwed up by adding a wrong number lol ill get a pic of it and the finished acclimation box up in a few minutes

Yeah, my Viewing box was stupid expensive, but a worthwhile investment... What do you use to cut and weld the acrylic???


Want to do a demo for one of our meetings sometime??? Just something simple like a acclimation box or whatever...

Ya I might be able to do something like that and im about to order a acrylic bending machine next week so the next box I make will be either 2 or 3 pieces only and that will look much better and id have to do some math but probably around $25 in material

I was thinking once I get all this stuff settled in for ETRC members I might build it at material cost and maybe a frag or two for labor

If all goes well, put me 2nd in line after Randy for a carbon reacter, kalk reactor and phosban reactor. Not being greedy of anything

well my orings and thumbscrews are suppose to be here this afternoon and that will be everything I need to get this first one together and on to the tank for testing!!! I will be pushing water through this thing with a mag pump 500gph to see what it will handle I think that will be sufficient for testing and also I may ask a couple of you to meet me somewhere to look at it and critique the design if anyone is willing
