Hey everyone,
I know they're a little "old" but i want to make a beckett style skimmer for my next tank. It will be a satellite system ( two display tanks plumbed to one sump). total volume of about 35-45 gal heavily stocked. taking designs from another member (keelay) i am going to plumb the pump from the back of the overflow box (to eliminate head loss) and have it pump straight down to the injectors/mixing chamber. now, this is going to be plumbed to display #1 (reef) and the return pump will also be plumb to this tank. so I know the return pump gph will have to be greater than the skimmer pump, ( I want at least 50ish gph tee'd off to go to display #2), but how many gph is needed to drive a skimmer this size. The entire skimmer cannot be more than 24" tall with maybe a 8"x 4" footprint?, preferably a little less. I was hoping to get away with something around 3-400gph for skimmer pump? im not really sure how much is needed to drive a small scale beckett. If I need more I was looking at ocean runner pumps, will they work? i did the math using a OR 2500 and i think it came out to display #1 having a ~45X turnover rate!!! (15g displays). I think thats a little high, but considering it will be mainly sps, i guess it means i wouldnt have to worry about powerhead huh? there goes my tunze nano stream idea... please tell me I can use a smaller pump
Thanks,
Sam
