DIY Bulk Reef Supply screen top question

DIY Bulk Reef Supply screen top question

I used a hacksaw and held it in place on a board with clamps. It cuts very easily by hand.

Lol I didn't have anybody help.me with my truck bed 2*4 to hold 5 gallon buckets so that didn't work to plan lol

At least it still fits in a bottom slot of my bed liner and water doesn't slide too much

i have used a hacksaw, but it made the edges rough.

i've also used a dremel, which took a long time and made me worried the cutting disk was going to break off and come flying at me.

an angle grinder with a cutting disk does a good jobs. less ragged edges than the dremel or the hacksaw, and a lot faster.

the best i've found though is my miter saw. made the cleanest, easiest cuts.

A hacksaw with a fine tooth blade will work fine. You might want to touch it up with a file. I would not use snips of any sort - the likelihood of smashing the end and being unable to put the corner pieces makes that idea problematic

I used a hacksaw as well. And at first I was unsatisfied because I wanted it to look absolutely perfect. Now I couldn't care less haha.

I crushed the hell out of it with my hacksaw, lol.
I'm gonna do the next one right though :)
They really aren't much sturdier that a soda can. It's like making a... Um... Tobacco pipe.

I'm upgrading rn and I'm really mad about how hard it is to find bird netting in January. I hate brs, but I want to make my top now :( I might have to order the roll of screen from them.

You can find bird netting at lowes or home depot I thought, but the only stuff I could find was 1/2" which is too big to hold a small fish. But then again...so is 1/4".

I bought my netting on ebay but I'm not sure that its any better than just going through brs. With 1/4" netting my firefish would jump through and flop around on the top if I was home. I thought I was helping him at first because I used to be sitting on my couch and hear something smack against the glass top I had on the tank....Too bad I came home from work one day to find him carpet surfing for what must have been several hours...

Why do you hate BRS? They've been nothing but amazing for me!

Id go to home depot they'll build it for you with the dimensions and you just pay for the supplies. I did it and paid less than the diy kits.

its essentially like "making a screen door"

I used a chop saw with a metal blade.

Overkill maybe, but that's how I roll.

Yes!! I use my Miter saw with a blade that I only use for projects like this lol one quick chop and it's done! Super easy. It's like when people use PVC cutters to cut PVC... Some reason it makes me cringe lol
