Has anyone here ever made a calcium reactor? I was thinking of doing something like that and was wondering if it is worth it, or just buy one? Asking because, after buying all the needed stuff, calcium reactors are expensive.
I have and so have a few others in the club i believe. I like the one i have. Its very efficient and has been running for 3 yrs now. Its currently on my 220 display, actually under it to be exact. It is a modified version of the one on Melev's site by DJ88.
Could you send me a PM cove on what you did different, and how hard it was to do? If its not too long of an explanation could you post it here? I think I might want to tackle the project as I have extra acrylic laying around.
The changes i made consist of making it larger to hold more media. Machined a better venturi. Since i haven't looked at the original recently i can't remember if there is anything else, but the design is sound. I liked the idea of a dual chamber in one housing. I'm not sure if the orig. had the PH probe plumbed in but mine is. i also made a stand alone bubble counter. I'll dig up the pics of it in a min hang on.
Cove helped me a bit while I was making mine . It's working good now. I was still having a little trouble with it leaking around the probe so I plugged it .and put the probe in a drip box I made, heres a pic. 1 less hole to leak
FYI--I had a small leak in my reactor and used silicone and kept on leaking, until I tried aquamend and has been dry ever since.
For those DIY projects it comes in real handy.....
I've looked at fabricating a few... but thought it was too much work to be worth it. I ended up getting that used Koralin 1502 for $100 so I can't really complain, after using it for a while I may take another crack at designing one.
