Canopy is pretty easy to build. On my 220 I took 1x10 pine and cut it down to a piece that would stratch across the fron of the tank and a peice for each side of the tank. Used a 1x1 block to fasten to on the inside corners so in a sense you have a big "u" shape. I then took a 1x1 and fastened it across the top back to make it more rigid to now from a top down view it looks like a rectangle but mot of the back is open to let air in. I then measured how far I wanted the canopy to sit down on the tank (so it was below the water line) and fastened block of wood on the inside of the canopy on the front (these blocks of wood will sit on the lip of the aquarium, also out some on the sides. Then made the top out of 1x6. Nothing to super fancy but I have built 2 of these and they look very nice in my opinion. I also run halides in my canopy with no issues. Hope this helps and I did not confuse you too much.
Hey building canopys are not hard at all. they just take alittle time. I would reccomend building it 14in tall to give you plenty of room and use aluminum to hold it up on the side of the tank because aluminum will not rot over time. Also Todd at reef systems have some great instructions for building canopys so you can send him a message or head down and talk to him.
