diy canopy question

I plan to use 1x2's for the canopy frame, sitting on top of the glass, connected at each corner. What are the best screws/nails to use and what kind of glue? Gorilla etc. Also where shall I place the uprights? On top of the bottom 1x2's or just inside each corner and then attaching to the bottom and top frame? The 2nd way seems sturdier but the weight will be totally on the fasteners. This may not be a problem since the top will be open. Tank is a 6x2x2' 180. Thanks in advance.

Kreg pocket hole jig. Makes very fast very strong joints.

you can get it at Lowes.
I recommend regular water resistant wood glue like titebond II. Far less expensive than Gorilla and easier to clean up.

I used 1x2's ripped length-wise for a 3/4 x 3/4 frame. Uprights on top of the bottom rail to better distribute the weight and keep the lines clean inside, as my bottom rails sit directly on top of the tank frame. I just used deck screws to fasten the rails together, and there really is no part of the screw exposed (if you're worried about corrosion) if designed correctly. Even if the frame seems a bit unsturdy, by the time you attach panels, it's not going anywhere. Elmers wood glue was my choice, but gorilla would be fine too. hth

Hey i bought that pocket hole jig.

Used it to build a leaning shelf system. It works really well. The only pain is for every sing hole, you have to remeasure and re-clamp. can be tedious, but worht the extra time for a clean look on the outside.
