Ithrew around a few different designs for DIY eductors and came up with this one. It's a 1/2" hose barb from Lowes, a piece of 1" Drinking water quality PVC (yes it matters) and a empty WD-40 spray bottle sold at Home Depot in the tool section...

Here's one of the WD-40 spray bottle. The top 3"works great for the funnel shapped tip. the screw on top fits perfectly into the length of 1" pvc when the threads are shaved a little bit. I haev two of these on my tank right now running off split returns from my gen x mak4 and the flow is pretty good. I intend to replace the split in the return to a 1" SCWD when they come out and then they should rock....

right now it's pretty much doubling the flow but then again they are only getting about 400-500 gph each if that. when I get the 1" SCWD they'll get around 900-1000 a piece and work much better....

heh- the paint wasn't drinking water quality :-) I colored them with permenant black marker. A sharpie to be more precise- It worked great but after being in the tank a few days I'm finding that my Mexican Turbos are making them look like zebras in the top corners! Hmmmmm...Wonder what sharpie tastes like? Anyway I just did that to hide then while the take on coraline and blend in on their on....As far as "drinking water quality" goes, it was a tiny variation in size that made it matter. The 1/2" hose barb fit snugly in the Driking water quality pvc but for some reason it didn't in the normal PVC...both were 1"

Oh, I know, you are talking about CPVC, not PVC. CPVC is different dimensions than the IPS sized PVC. FWIW, Most PVC these days is NSF rated. Fine to use.
Sorry I had to bust your chops on the ink! :D

heh- no problem! I knew it was coming :-P All seems to be well so far...I can't wait til the 1" SCWD comes out so I can try it!

Hey Ken,

Thanks for the pic and the idea. I saw another DIY eductor, but it didn't look like it would be as effective as the one you've got with the butchered WD40 spray bottle as a nozzle. Did you use any PVC glue to put it all together?

Peace,
John H.

Probably its because i'm a complete idiot (and because I don't have thos WD-40 empy bottles), but I don't know how did u do it.
can u give me a little help with it?
Thank u :)

Walter

Could you please post a reply for us with it functioning?
This spray is for circulation or for skimming?
A guess it is for circ, IÃ"šÃ‚´m right?

the problem is, rufio, that me and thigrito are from outside from the states. That means that everytime we buy something in places online, our customs and the postal services kills us with tons of charges.

Holy crap- I didn't know peoplw were still reading this! Anyway, The eductors are still working great. The mixican turbos in my tank ate all of the black ink of of them so I'm hoping they will be coraline covered soon but they have worked really well for me. They definately make more flow that the outlet alone......

If it will take the purple PVC pre-etch stuff that you use before putting the glue on, you could color your nozzles with that. I have two outlets in my tank colored with that and before any coralline grew on them the snails ran over them without chewing it off.
