DIY LED lighting for BTA

Hello all,

I will be finishing work on my new LED fixture and would like some advice on the odds of successfully keeping a bubble tip anemone under it, and some general anemone pointers if you are so inclined. This will be my first anemone.

I have a 55 gallon reef with a 30 gallon sump (including about 10 gallons for refugium) and about 100-150 lbs of live rock. The reef is about 8 months old. I am successfully growing zoanthids at the moment. Nitrates, nitrites, ammonia and phosphates are 0. dKH around 10, temp at 78. Salinity 1.024 using kent marine salt.

My lights are 24 cree xp-g r5 cool white and 24 xt royal blue, for about 150 watts or so of led light. All have 55-65 degree lenses. I am planning to hang the fixture about 8-12" off the water.

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

48 over a 55 will be fine but I believe you will find that you dont need any optics. You will have more than enough light and a much better mixture without the optics at that distance.

We will have to see. I already put them on. If I don't like them, I can always take them back off. Thank you for the info.
