diy led project

Because the marketing of led lights in Greece is poor, sorry not poor- its nonexistent, and saw many-many problems with the ones on sale we dicided to make our own one.
we started off with some experiments and test

Then the project started we ordered all the electronic parts we were going to need

and the boards we had made Bergquist boards with 3.2mm aluminium base

We placed the boards on the heatsink 8.5'' wide and 48'' long one piece

wow, very nice. the base board that you made are really nice, I used a 1.5mm copper base board on my light coz I am afraid that aluminum is not fast enough to transfer heat to the heatsink above.

either way, which LED drivers did you use?

Very nice. Few questions though:

What LEDs are you using for this, and at what drive current?

Also, with the lense post poking through the back, how did you get good contact between the MCPCB and the heatsink?

when are you going to show us a parts list and some instructions to make your awsome led light fixture. iam sure many others want to make one also nice work

DarkDevil your right about the copper. On my boards i have attached thermometers (like the ones eliwell uses) so i can monitor temps. On the 2 outer boards i have temps 34oC-36oC and in the 2 middle boards 36oC-38oC, all sensors are in the middle of each board. these temperatures were in mid summer were room temp was nearly the same. We did our best to achieve good themocunductivity. The round white stickers are from Bergquist with good conductivity as well as in between the board and the heatsink we used conductivity paste( like the one used for cpus).
Evilc66 with a hot knife to cut off excess and hot drill bit to fill up the holes. My partner here wasnt carefull and scratched the boards.

We used luxeonIII with maximum 700mA. We have them operating now at 80% white and 60% blue with sunrise and sunset. Estimate 180watt total consumption right now.
Now a freind here has asked for us to make one for him but we are know returning to stage one and trying to figure out an easier way to built it because this one tokk us a long time to biuld. So we are back to the drawing board

Very nice VARDIDAKIS. Any reason you went with Luxeon III's over some of the new generation LEDs like the Cree XR-E's, SSC P4's of the Luxeon K2 TFFC's?
