Diy led

the pendants are 10x18. i am going to mount two pieces of the c channel in my hood running long way. i am going to mount a L bracket to the pendants and set it up where i can move the pendants on the pieces of c channel left and right to adjust the position of the lights.

so the ALC module will work on the RKL?, am planning on doing some leds for my new 65g thats 36" x 18" x 24" and I wanted to do 3 10" x 10" heatsinks with 12 leds on them with one fan on top of each with 80 degree optics because its going inside a canopy so that lights will be close to water, any suggestion or advice would be great

Yep! The ALC will work with the RKL as of a firmware update several months back.

If you're only keeping fish and maybe softies, 36 LEDs will be sufficient. If you're wanting to keep corals, you'll want more. If you're wanting to keep corals on the bottom, you'll also want to do tighter optics to get the light down into your tank since its 24" deep.

I know Bill is loving his. There are large builds that are in the planning stages that I'm sure more will be revealed about later. :) Good stuff so far!

Some of my LEDs are on backorder but they will be here march 3rd. I will keep you guys updated on progress. I am next in line for the par meter. When I finish my setup I will post par readings. Greg if you look at poolkeepers led build he has some impressive par readings and I have seen his tank first hand with the LEDs whensome of them were not working and is nice. Once you see them in person you will get started on your build I did.

well i got the leds installed in the hood this weekend. i will try get some picks up this evening. i would also suggest anyone who uses the same leds i have to go with more of a 1:1 ratio. i have more of a 20k look. i wired 10 leds per driver just in case i wasnt happy with the color. i have ordered 6 more cool whites to radomly place to add a litte more white.

That also may be due to you not using XP-Gs. XP-Gs and XR-Es are totally different LEDs. :)

Can't wait to see the pics!

I went with 2 to 1 blue to white but added 6 more cool whites to brighten it up. The color is just what I wanted and now I can get rid of my chiller.

Nice, man! Glad to hear its just what you wanted. That is definitely the goal.

Your electricity bill should go down for sure. :)

just tested the par it is 150 at the bottom of the tank. i went without the optics because of how close they are to the water. i am gonna check the par of the overdriven t5 setup that i removed when the lights turn off and will post the results.
