DIY LEDs

Got your attention huh?
Well i dont have any and that is the problem. As all of you do I am planning my next upgrade and I think I want LEDs but i dont want to spend close to 2k on a pre made fixture. I'm not all that handy nor that smart ( wife thinks my licence should say age 5) but we do have some people in the club that know this stuff very well. Here is what I propose we all chip in and get all the stuff needed for a DIY LED set up , umm lets say that will fit a 48" tank and have a workshop on how to make it all happen.
Like most of you I have read the 1000 plus posts on how to do it but I really need to see it done for it to sink in.
What do you think?
I will also shoot the whole process so we can have a nice video of how to from start to end.

I understand you want a "hands on" approach in order to understand how to do it, and like you I would read hundreds of pages on how to do it and still not fully understand it.

A member near me did a DIY and posted step by step pictures and after reading it, it finally "clicked". I then understood on how to do it and it seems pretty easy. Here's a link to the thread where he went into detail with parts, procedures, and pictures: pictures on post #40.

Another member (Garage1217) has crazy DIY LED skills and im sure if you shot him a PM or something he would point you in the right direction on what to get.

I know Rapid LED is a sponsor on RC and they have a forum to ask questions. You can shoot them a question regarding how many LED's should be appropriate for your new 75.
I aswell as many others here are considering the DIY's kits that they now carry. I will have to go with at least 96 LED's.
You may be on to something with a group buy here, I have spoken with Big LA and Harry, just the initial costs of purchase is the killer for me right now. Around $800.00 for a complete package for my set-up. Then the build is another story.
Tax time perhaps??
